UNIFIED DISTRICT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR EDUCATION
Review Committee on educational statistics constituted by the MHRD recommended adopting unified system for collection and dissemination of educational statistics to overcome difficulties cruising from multiple sources of data on education. As sequel to this, an expert group was constituted by the MHRD under the Chairmanship of Prof.R.Govinda, Vice-Chancellor, NUEPA to prepare road map to evolve unified system for collection of school education statistics.
The road map recommended by the expert group includes identifying/establishing a dedicated department at national level to act as nodal agency that is responsible for collection and dissemination of school education statistics. Similarly at state level a nodal office may be identified to coordinate collection and dissemination of school education statistics. At district level, it is recommended that a nodal officer may be identified to coordinate the efforts to collect data. The expert group suggests that the mechanism to collect and disseminate school education statistics ought not to be tied to any schemes / programmes. Further, the expert group recommended integration of DISE and SEMIS into one single system in phases from the academic year 2012-13 onwards.
The expert group observes that proper maintenance of records in schools is a critical ingredient in the adoption and sustenance of unified system for collection of school education statistics. The school records, if properly maintained can strengthen the data base at school level facilitates quick and accurate filling of DCFs and improves reliability of data. Accordingly, the expert group identifies a set of core records to be maintained by each school and recommends its adoption across the country.
